THE SPECTATORS TRICK. You do not need to touch the cards / great magic. Give the spectator all the credit – they love it BUT have no idea how they have done it. EFFECT: The magi asks the spectator whether he can do any card tricks. Whatever the spectator answers, the magi says "Well YOU'RE going to perform the next trick." The magi gives the spectator a pack and tell him or her to hold the cards up and fan them so the cards are facing the magi. The magi picks a card which the spectator removes and places on the table, never looking at it. The spectator, after some manipulation, ends up with two piles of cards on the table. The top cards on each pile are turned over, and one reveals the value of the selected card while the other reveals the suit.
THE HOMING ACES. Based on the classic four ace trick. Great with Jumbo cards. EFFECT: The four aces are dealt out with three random cards on each. The spectator is then asked to hold the pile with his "favourite" ace in a secure place. The dealer then "removes" the aces from the other piles. All the aces are then found in the hands of the spectator who has no idea how he got them.
PSYCHIC NAME A CARD: This is a real mind boggler. EFFECT: You tell a spectator that you're psychic and that you can pick out whatever card he (or she) is thinking of. Explain that this experiment in the magic of the mind depends on him, so if he does not concentrate hard enough, it will not work. After he has the card in mind, you pick up the deck and look through the cards. After a moment, you set the deck face down in front of the spectator and announce a card. If this is the correct one, then he is amazed (and so will I but if it is call me and tell me how you did it]. Since this seldom happens, you continue. When he says it's not his card, tell him that he didn't concentrate hard enough. Tell him to take the pack and find his card – you then instruct him to replace his card and shuffle and cut the cards. You pick up the deck and look through the cards. After a second, you put the deck face down in front of him again and ask him what his card was. When he announces his card, you flip over the top card on the deck and it's the same one.
FINGER WALK CARD PREDICTION: A fast and direct prediction. My father taught me this trick over 40 years ago and it has never let me down – great reaction always. Effect: Spectator shuffle a pack of ordinary cards. You write a prediction on a piece of paper which the spectators holds. You pull cards of the pack until the spectator say stop [free choice]. You show the card they have stopped at. The spectator opens the piece of paper – WOW it has the name of the chosen card written on it.
THE CARD SPELL: A nice trick to play around with. Effect: The magi shuffles the deck and takes the top thirteen cards. Holding the cards face down, he proceeds to spell the first card name, Ace. "A-C-E". He then flips over the next card and it is an Ace. He repeats this process for each card number, Ace through King. At the end, he has all thirteen cards face up on the table, in sequential order.
THE DECK OF CARDS: This is a great ending to a card performance. I use this to close lectures for WI, Probus, Clubs etc. It always receives a great response. During the North African campaign, a bunch of soldier boys had been on a long hike and they arrived in a little town called Cascina. The next morning being Sunday, several of the boys went to Church. A sergeant commanded the boys in Church and after the Chaplain had read the prayer, the text was taken up next.
Those of the boys who had a prayer book took them out, but this one boy had only a deck of cards, and so he spread them out. The Sergeant saw the cards and said, "Soldier put away those cards." After the services was over, the soldier was taken prisoner and brought before the Provost Marshall. The Marshall said, "Sergeant, why have you brought the man here?" "For playing cards in church, Sir." "And what have you got to say for yourself, son?" "Much, Sir." Replied the soldier. The Marshall said, "I hope so, for if not I shall punish you more than any man was ever punished." The soldier said, "Sir, I've been on the march for about six days, I had neither Bible nor prayer book, but I hope to satisfy you, Sir, with the purity of my intentions." With that, the boy started his story:
THE MAGICAL YEAR CARD TRICK: This is a great close up favourite of mine. EFFECT: A spectator selects a card from a pack of cards [free choice]. The spectator place the card on the top of the pack and cuts the deck a few times to make sure their card is lost in the deck. You tell the spectator that 2007 [or what ever year you want] is a magical year. You now take the deck face down in your left hand and begin to ask the spectator a few questions about the year [example how many days in a week, how many months etc. etc.] As the spectator gives you the answer to your questions you proceed to count that many cards onto the table. After you have finished asking questions you turn the top card on the deck over to show their card but it is wrong – but you say is it is a magical year and with a flick of the card it turns into their chosen card.
