A superb Victorian hallmarked sterling silver sugar bowl which remains in very good condition.
This high quality piece measures approximately 5.75" (14.5cm) in length, and stands 3" (7.5cm) tall. It weighs 133 grams - 4.28 Troy ounces of solid sterling silver.
The piece is well designed - the body is semi-fluted and stands on four ball feet. The bowl has simple loop handles, while the upper rim features gadroon and scrollwork detail.
Despite it's age, the piece remains in very good condition - a light bump to one handle (nothing significant) and no dings, dents, splits or repairs. It remains free of engraved crests or initials (and no erasures). It is fully hallmarked to the side, guaranteeing sterling standard silver.
These hallmarks show that the jug was assayed in London in the year 1880. The maker's mark is EH, identifying Edward Hutton of the noted firm of silversmiths William Hutton and Sons limited of Sheffield.
A high quality, well designed Victorian sterling silver hallmarked sugar bowl which remains in excellent condition after almost 130 years.
