This frame is a medium Niner Air9 Easton Scandium/Aluminum 29er in Raw silver. It was purchased in July 2008 and only ridden for a few months. Now I've upgraded to a custom 29er and can't afford to have extra bikes hanging around. The Air9 is an awesome, responsive ride and the lightweight aluminum (frame weight = 3.1 pounds) makes for a super light overall bike. I loved this frame and had my custom bike built based off the Air 9's feel and geometry. The frame is in perfect working condition. Cosmetically, there is wear, especially on the right chainstay - see the pictures for shots of the imperfections. Along with the frame, I will include the original receipt. This is a great frame! While the Air 9 is based on Niner's award winning
One 9, we didn't just simply put a derailleur hanger and a standard
bottom bracket into the One 9. We redesigned the frame from the
ground up with an all new proprietary Easton GX2 tubeset. Everything
from the drop outs to the head tube was re-examined for maximum
weight savings while still maintaining the strength and ride quality
that is paramount to all Niner frames.
The ever critical head tube junction is one of the
most important sections on any frame, especially 29" frames.
The larger lever arm (longer fork and taller wheel) combined with
the shorter head tube increases forces on this critical area substantially,
and while all Niner frames pass stringent testing standards, we
wanted to improve this junction while decreasing the weight. Niner
and Easton worked side by side to come up with a proprietary downtube
designed to be used without a head tube gusset while still maintaining
the necessary clearance for fork crowns. The bent downtube was the
best solution and simultaneously increased the strength of the head
tube area while decreasing the weight and created the clearance
needed to fit any fork on the market on this frame.
In the rear triangle, we've also redesigned the
s-bend chainstays and seatstays for increased heel and mud clearance
while maintaining the vertical compliance and lateral stiffness
of the stays. The drop outs are "Breezer" style drop outs
with a replaceable derailleur hanger. All the details you've come
to expect from Niner are, of course, standard here which include
an internally butted head tube and BB shell, faced head tube and
BB, reamed seat tube, a faced disc tab and chased BB threads for
a frame that's ready to build right out of the box.
