Behold a true Classic Sword with an attractive Grip decorated in Colour. This outstanding antique was created in the 1880’s by the illustrious "Ames Sword Company". It is one of the landmark "Ames Sword Company" Knights Templar favourites. This particular design ranks as one of, if not the SINGLE, MOST INTRICATE & ELABORATE OF ALL KNIGHTS TEMPLAR SWORDS. The Sword is in very fine vintage condition. But being old, there is some expected wear of the years and it is mostly on the scabbard. The surface of the otherwise mirror-bright scabbard has areas with oxidation snd light corrosion smudges and crackles. It is mostly on the back of the scabbard. In our opinion, this does not detract from the overall beauty of the item. Especially since virtually everything else is remarkable. The Rococo style etchings on the blade are beautiful. They are enhanced by a lovely warm Gold. This is a very high quality Sword in the much sort after "Frosted Silver". The effect is very alluring. The Grip is made of a material which simulates the feel of a tusk. It is decorated by designs with added colour. Not all too common a feature. This Sword is sure to be a showpiece for any collection of Masonic Swords. The great dramatic features include THREE MEDIEVAL KNIGHTS DRAWING THEIR SWORDS. One is located at center of the Hand-Guard. In true Medieval tradition, the other two Warriors stand atop a platform on the uppermost Scabbard Mount. A virtual COLLECTION OF MINIATURE SCULPTURES! They remind one of historic pieces found in museums. Directly above the two Knights at the upper Mount is a large sparkling Cross surrounded by the motto: "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" ("With This Sign Shalt Thou Conquer"). There also are somewonderful touches of GLISTENING JEWEL-LIKE RED ENAMEL. The colour is vibrant and crisp. The Knight's Head Pommel has a distinctive Helmet bearing the Medieval design of a MYTHOLOGICAL GRYPHON or DRAGON on each side. The entire Sword represents a highly artistic concept producing a powerful and dynamic visual statement! This impressive sword will make a fine prize for any collector of antique 19th Century Swords, Masonic & Knights Templar artifacts, Victorian period Americana and you name it! Recently published was a handsome Hardcover Book, a re-issue of one of the oldest "Ames Sword Company" catalogs. The front and back covers of this exemplary work were graced by representations of the various Swords that Ames had produced. Obviously, the editors chose only those swords which represented the company at their artistic and historic VERY BEST. The choice of Knights Templar Sword was allocated to a gold coloured version of THIS EXACT SWORD DESIGN! It is the only Templar Commandery Sword appearing on the cover. Even a short look at this treasure explains why. One can sit and contemplate the elaborate craftsmanship, the imagery and symbols that live on this piece for hours on end. The Sword is ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING! The original owner's name appears etched on the Scabbard as well as on the Blade along with that of the maker. In our modern day, there is a great appreciation for all things deemed "Medieval". With the contemporary "Goth Culture" as well as the "Dungeons and Dragons", "Excalibur" and "Arthurian" mystiques, manufacturers try to supply the demands by producing multitudes of fantastical interpretations of ancient ornate Swords and Weaponry.
