Rare Art Deco Cocktail Shaker, designed by Sylvia Stave for the Swedish firm Carl Gustav Hallberg, circa 1930s, and signed underneath with manufacturer's stamp. This design has sold for up to $10,716 at Christie's, May 2, 1996, and the most recent example we could find sold for $4800 at Phillips, May 24, 2008. No need to worry, as our reserve is much, much less. Another example of Stave's work can be seen in the book "Modernism - Modernist Design 1880-1940" by Alastair Duncan, pg. 234. This is one of the seminal books on modernist design and documents the finest examples from the The Norwest Museum Collection. This shaker has a sculptural form that would fit seamlessly into any interior, from traditional to ultra-modern. It is in good shape, with a couple small dings, one to each side below the mouth, and one under the base. Some wear at the bottom of the reeded handle and some minor surface scratches and wear. See detail photos below. The removable cap is slightly out of round inside, causing the cap to fit tightly, but it does remove and contains the original strainer inside. The pitcher measures 7"H x 5.5"W x 7"D approx. Shipping will be approx $40 East Coast, $60 West Coast.
