A pretty straw and silk ribbon sewing basket that dates to the early 1900's. This is a petite basket that measures 4 1/2" square and stands about 2" tall. The sides and lid are have pink silk ribbon inserts. Silk is in pretty good shape but there is a split or spot here and there. The ribbons on the lid were originally sewn and looped around the sides of the lid. These stitches had come loose and were fraying. So I nipped them off and just glued them under the lid to hold them in place. Both the top and underside of the lid is decorated with pretty ribbon work flowers that are large and puffy with wood centers. The ribbon is ombre' in beautiful lavender/mauve/pinky shades. The wood centers were probably covered with silk at some point but aren't any more. It is in good condition for an antique basket of this age. There are no significant breaks. The front is missing whatever latching piece it once had. The hinges are functional but it appears that the right one was fixed with additional wire at some point. Inside the basket are some charming sewing notions. These are included as "extras" and "as-is" so I will not go into great detail in describing them. There is:
-
3 1/2" long embroidery scissors. They are stamped "J. Rogers & Sons, England". I have not attempted to polish them but they appear as though they would shin up nicely and may even be sterling.
-
Tiny wooden spool of pink silk thread.
-
Spool of Richardsons cream embroidery silk.
- Paper of "Dix and Rands, Austria" #3/9 needles. Only a couple left in pack.
- 3" long bone ribbon threader.

2 1/4" green silk and fine ruffled lace pin cushion. Top is accented with a pink silk ribbon rose and there is 2 white glass headed pins, 1 black enamel safety pin, a 1" MOP lingerie pin and a 3/4" brass/pearl set pin stuck in the cushion.
-
Bunch of cream satin ribbon.
-
1" button set with 6 rhinestones.
-
2 small pieces of French ribbon rose trim.
