Fac 51 The Hacienda
Axonometric and Plan Views
Each one measuring 33¼” x 24½” (approx. Large A1 poster size)
(The axonometric & the view plans - click on any image to enlarge)
These drawings were used by Fred (the maintenance man and Zumbar compere) for reference during his working day. Stacked in a large pile in his office, they were constantly photo copied at the printers as he, or his contractors, used them to work from. We never realized that these working plans would become collector’s items and framed artwork. Fred’s copies are taken from the axonometric of Fac 51 The Hacienda which Ben Kelly produced in 1981 and the plan views he drew in 1996.

The axonometric was created before the Hacienda opened and, if I recall, was used as the design of a poster that we sold in Area 51 (the Factory artifact shop in Affleck’s Palace).

The view plans, which show the 3 levels of the club, were drawn up in 1995 for the development of The Fifth Man in the basement of The Hacienda. It’s interesting (for us obsessives) to note the changes made to the building between these years. One change that can be seen is that the stairs on the left hand side of Hicks are closed off in the plans but not in the axonometric: they were closed off in 1991 as they were thought, by the police, to be a secluded area where drugs were, allegedly sold. Another change is that the DJ booth and the lighting box are located on the balcony in the plans but, when the Hacienda originally opened, they were in a small room at the side of the stage.

These would make a great pair of posters. They are on good quality white paper with black text and grey logo. Each one measures 33¼” x 24½” (approx. A1 poster size) and are in mint condition.
The highest bidder will receive a poster tube containing the following:
1981 axonometric drawing
1996 plan view drawing
Hacienda Letter Headed Paper
My Hacienda Business Card
(see items above)
To give provenance to your artifact you will receive a description of the poster, hand written on Hacienda letter headed paper.
Please note that this is a genuine Hacienda / Factory Records item you are bidding on. I was the manager of the Hacienda from 1989 to the end of 1996 – you can confirm this by checking the index of ‘The Hacienda Must Be Built’ for my job title and dates. You may also like to look at my ‘me’ page. If you would like to ask me any questions about this item, or the Hacienda in general, please feel free to contact me through eBay.
