After many years, I have reluctantly decided to part with a very special bracelet. I acquired this bracelet from the late Teal McKibben, owner of La Bodega in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Teal amassed an amazing collection of Native American jewelry and art over her lifetime. This bracelet was part of her personal collection, and I was honored to have had a chance to own it. The bracelet is a spectacular early example of Navajo cast work, and is set with five turquoise stones across the center and an additional twelve snake eye turquoise set on the cast protrusions from the bracelet. This bracelet is obviously the work of a master craftsman. A nearly identical example is in the book, "Southwest Indian Silver From the Doneghy Collection" on page 62. It is dated circa 1900. I have included a scan of this bracelet in the auction.
The bracelet has an inside circumference of 5 1/4 inches, plus a gap of 1 1/4 inches, for a total of 6 1/2 inches. It is about 1 1/8 inches wide. There is evidence of much wear, as the edges of the bezels on some of the snake eye turquoise are worn thin from having rubbed against another bracelet. It is not marked for silver content or maker, as one would expect for a piece from this era. It does have "S 29" scratched into the inside, possibly a trader's code. It weighs 63.9 grams. I would not recommend trying to adjust the size, as it is quite rigid.
