This is a relatively modern American made instrument as indicated by the rather 'jazzy' green finish. However it is well made in brass finished in a highly textured green crackle and smooth green lacquer with just a few spots of verdigris corrosion. The 9.5 inch telescope (240mm) telescope has a good 1 3/8 inch (35mm) coated objective lens with protective cover, and internal focusing which gives a pin sharp bright upright image. The eyepiece, which has a sliding lens cover, adjusts separately to focus the crosshairs. There is a good spirit level mounted along the telescope. The 4.5 inch (114mm) silvered vertical circle is enclosed with a single port and vernier. The circle is divided 0 to 90 degrees in four quadrants. The table encloses a silvered azimuth circle with two glazed ports, hinged covers/reflectors, and silvered verniers. The azimuth is divided 0 to 360 degrees. The excellent 3.75 inch (95mm) compass has a black dial marked for Keuffel & Esser Co Made in the USA, a silvered chapter ring divided 0 to 90 degrees in four quadrants, and a gold coloured indicator with jewelled bearing and bearing relief lever. The compass consistently sets North. The table is marked No 222573. The theodolite is set on a tribrach with four levelling screws and a threaded tripod mount. The veneered fitted case has two handles and turnbuckles. There is a tool shelf with screwdriver, brush etc. The case measures 18.5 x 9 x 9 inches (470 x 230 x 230 mm) and weighs 11.8 kg. Shipping & handling will cost £13 for a two day UK delivery; overseas more. No reserve.
