In the early days of the Grande Ballroom, the MC5 reigned supreme, playing the venue 15 consecutive weekends. For the two weekends leading up to New Year’s Eve in 1966, the house band was backed by the Green Grass Blues Band, Urban Roots, the Black and Blues Band, Taboos, Cosmic Expanding, and Poor Souls. These bands may not be familiar now, but at the time, they were helping the MC5 build the Detroit music scene. And when the music and Gary Grimshaw’s poster art was combined, Detroit quickly became comparable to San Francisco’s scene.
This 1st printing poster, measuring 14 15/16” x 22 1/2”, is on uncoated paper stock and is signed in pencil by graphic artist, Gary Grimshaw. There are no pinholes, rips, or restoration work on the poster. There are a few dirt-marks or light stains on varies parts of the poster: in the top left corner, just outside of the main image; right above the women’s forehead; and above the show times, just outside of the women’s main image. In the top right corner, the paper is slightly discolored. None of these blemishes take away from the aesthetics of this beautiful poster.
The buyer receives a Certificate of Provenance with purchase upon request.
