The Grande Ballroom opened its doors in October of 1967, with Russ Gibb presenting the MC5 and Chosen Few. MC5, who became Detroit’s favorite band of the 1960s, was a Grande Ballroom house band. Their frontman, Rob Tyner, introduced Gibb to poster artist Gary Grimshaw, who quickly became the house poster artist. Tyner, an artist himself, designed a few early handbills for his band’s Grande shows. This one, a concert with MC5, Jagged Edge, and the Black and Blues Band on November 25, 1966 depicts the Grande scene. The handbill doubled as a 2-for-1 coupon when presented at the door.
The handbill, measuring 8 1/2” x 11 1/8”, is on thin white paper. For being on thin paper and a possible ticket for a patron, it is remarkable that this poster is in mint condition. There are no rips, creases, or handling marks on this handbill…a wonderful piece of Grande memorabilia.
The buyer receives a Certificate of Provenance with purchase upon request.
