It's special
Those who follow my sewing-machine-related Ebay auctions will be aware that I offer only two featherweights on Ebay each year. One in the spring and the other in the fall. And, of course, I select the very best of the many that pass through my hands.
What we have here is a North American market 110-volt 222 Freearm machine in perfect working condition and fully loaded with every original accessory plus a batch of others that will make this 222 a do-anything machine.
And a big bonus – this is a Big Red S badged machine – made only during the last 18 months of production and the most desirable of the rare Freearm Featherweights.
For anyone not familar with the 222, it was Singer's up-market version of the 221 Featherweight with the added ability to be converted into a freearm model (just loosen one screw) and having lowering feed dogs it's perfect for creative free-hand embroidery.
`
First a little history
The machine - Serial Number ER 023780- has 110 Volt electrics for the US market. The machine was one of a batch of just 2500 commissioned at Singer's main factory in Scotland on March 15, 1960.
Now it has been through my workshops for the most complete overhaul and adjustment program possible and came out with flying colors and as-new performance.
The motor - heart of the machine
Most Singer Featherweight motors of this age are a little tired so we have totally rebuilt the motor internally to Singer's original specification and are so confident that we can give it a two-year guarantee
When I say that this 222 is fully working, I don't just mean that the motor makes a noise -- I mean that every facet of the machine's
abilities has been fully tested and that it's ready to plug in and sew.
Condition
Decals are superb
Chrome is perfect
Paintwork is fantastic - just a couple of light pin marks affecting only the top protective layer and not going throught to the paintwork itself.
On my scale this machine rates a staggering condition 9. Check the condition scale here
