Up for auction is a pair of beautiful LORGNETTES. I don't have a clue about the origin or history..only that a friend asked me to sell them for her.
They are gold tone and look to have age ..no clue as to exact age !! sorry. They measure approx. 10 1/2 inches long - the handle and the glasses are almost 5 inches from end to end.
They have a beautiful filigree design with what I would consider Victorian ladies . A full bust of one on each side in the middle and then just the head near the end...really great detail. I hope the pictures do them justice !
No clue as to the metal..though a magnet does NOT stick to it. They are in excellent condition..there is slight tarnishing on the edges about half way down..but I have done NOTHING to clean them. I will let that up to the next owner.
There is a ring at the bottom..I guess for a chain so that you can let them hang around your neck. Once again, I am not an opera goer !
