Antique German Carved Wood Church Icon, Antike Ikone

This is the 13th stage/station of Christ, very large and masterfully hand carved in wood.  The base is 3 1/2" deep, 22 1/4" wide, and 27 1/2" tall.  This is carved in three dimension, so notice how facial expressions change depending upon the angle viewed.  The art work is incredibly intricate and capable of capturing moods that cannot be duplicated by photos.  This was originally painted in bright colors, but the paint deteriorated, so was removed.  There is some insect damage which can be seen in the photos.  Paint still exists on the sides and back.  This icon was brought to the United Stated from Germany many years ago.  This is a beautiful 19th Century work of art of museum quality, in my opinion.  If you have any questions, please ask.  I will be glad to provide close-up photos to any detail you may be interested in.
