Lady's Sewing Companion, Silver Thimble, Tools, ca 1870

See additional pictures. Mid-nineteenth century circular hinged dark brown leather Lady's Companion with fancy metal mounts and push button catch. Lined with a red fabric. The words "Lady's Companion" are stamped at the bottom of the front of the case. The case (when closed) measures approx. 8.5 cm tall x approx 3.8 cm diameter. It weighs (complete with tools) 55.4 grams. As found.

The case contains six tools:

1. A bone stiletto. Approx. 7 cm long.

2. Two steel button / glove hooks. Approx. 6.5 and 5 cm long.

3. A steel bodkin. Approx. 7.1 cm long.

4. A small pair of steel scissors. Damaged - both points are missing. Approx. 5.3 cm long.

5. A silver thimble with fancy engraved scrolls border, vacant cartouche and turn over rim. Not hallmarked but tests as sterling. No holes or dents but not perfectly round at the opening. Height approx. 2.2 cm; internal base diameter approx 1.4 cm; weight 2.8 grams.
