Antique Reverse Painted New Haven Ogee Clock
This is a lovely antique c 1830s (1835-1839) Forestville Ogee weight driven clock with reverse painted glass. Piece is in wonderful working condition. This clock has no cracks, damage, or missing veneer, a rare thing, considering these were hauled on trains and wagons over bumpy trails to reach their destinations. Also quite impressive considering its 170 year age (that's right...170 years). Beautiful Mahogany still lustrous. Reverse painting combines freehand, gilt, and stencil work. Just fantastic. Original Forestville inner paper label and instructions still present, though showing wear as expected. Eight-day, time and strike. Key, pendulum, and weights all present, weight pulleys turn smooth, and clock is running at this very moment. Measures 31" high x 17" wide and is 4.5" deep. Marked, "Forestvill Manufacturing Co, Bristol, CT, U.S.A" on face. I have provided many photos, so bid with confidence! Wonderful early clock for your collection, use, and decor.
