Hello from Italy! We have been traveling a lot lately and have some good news for those of you in search of Fine Antique Vestments from Italy. From the mountain villages of Northern Italy to the beautiful towns in Tuscany, Veneto and Umbria we have collected a spectacular group of vestments. Italian Vestments are among the most prized in the world due to their stunning workmanship, fabrics and design. This week we have gorgeous Albs and Surplice, 2 Matching Brocade Dalmatics, an unbelievable set of 22 Altar Boy Vestments, a magnificent embroidered Humeral Veil, as well as a stunning Brocade Cope.
We are offering these pieces in the condition we found them. Many are in superb condition, but we believe that ALL of these Antique Vestments would benefit from a Professional Cleaning.
IN THIS AUCTION we are offering a Spectacular Antique Italian Priest Surplice Vestment. A magnificent expanse of lace is topped by a beautiful Cotton yolk trimmed in narrow lace ribbon and closes at the neck with a ribbon bow.
The Lace is spectacular. It has a fabulous repeating I.H.S. insignia surrounded by wonderful fanciful flourishes and topped with a Chalice and Host surrounded by Glorious Rays. The same lace is found edging the sleeves. The edge of the lace is beautifully scalloped - all elements combine perfectly to make a stunning design.
The Vestment is in excellent condition and superlative adjectives are not sufficient to communicate the ethereal quality of this garment.
The Surplice measures 36 ½ inches (92 cm) from shoulder to bottom hem and from shoulder to shoulder 21 inches (53 cm) across. The impressive Lace of the Skirt measures 25 inches (63.5 cm) long; and the lace on the Sleeves are 13 inches (33 cm).
