This auction is for the ultimate collectible radio, the 25 tube Zenith 1000Z Stratosphere! Introduced in late 1936, Zenith was known for using the highest quality components and with the Stratosphere they went above and beyond, using the best of the best. The cabinet is beautiful beyond description; Zenith's 1937 dealer catalog says it best: "A symphony in rare wood. Rare woods blended into a symphonic harmony of exquisite color emphasize the true character of the Zenith STRATOSPHERE as a genuine musical instrument. Design has been dictated by the basic principles of acoustics, just as that of a violin. Outstanding charm is the result. Solid walnut pilasters are combined with Australian laurelwood. The superstructure is Carpathian elm burl, inlaid with imported marquetry: a note repeated in the center grille. Doors are of matched American butt walnut, of satin sheen. Nothing finer has ever been produced by craftsmen in wood." This radio is the same one featured in the book "ZENITH RADIO, THE EARLY YEARS" by Harold N. Cones and John H. Bryant. This radio is the later, improved version with serial number XXX215, the later version started at serial number XXX106. This set has been fully restored both electrically and cosmetically and is in excellent working condition with ALL ORIGINAL SPEAKERS AND COMPONENTS, original knobs in excellent condition, new tuning belt, etc. At some time in this radio's history, holes were drilled into the amplifier chassis to, presumably, assist air circulation. We prefer the buyer inspect this great radio in person to ensure complete satisfaction and pick it up at my house, we will work with you and your shipper of choice. If you want more photos or have questions use it at kimmerlebrothers ??????????? A 20% cashier's check deposit due 3 days after close of auction.
