Here is a wonderful 1907 era -- silver plate side logo 7” tall by 8” wide (from the tip of the spout to the opposite far end of the handle) large 2 portion teapot or coffee pot made made for the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad. This teapot would have been used onboard the Dining Cars of the CB&Q steam era passenger train and may have also saw service aboard the earlier versions of the Burlington Zephyr Streamliner passenger trains, but I’m pretty sure it was during the 1907 – early 1920’s steam era. The teapot is marked with Burlington’s “BR” logo on the side. A picture of this same type of large teapot or coffee pot can seen on page 66 of Mr. Maffetts “Silver Banquet II” Railroad Silver Plate book. The tea pot has wonderful art-deco sides, an ornamental top, and a very ornate handle. The pitcher was made by Reed & Barton Silver Co. is silver soldered, has the number 092-H on the bottom, and marked “2P” for two portions. This piece is the heavyweight type Hotel, Steamship, and Restaurant silver, and would have also been used in connection with the Railroad’s china for table settings. Overall, the item is in excellent condition with the usual usage scratches, and a few small usage dings / dents on the side (which is typical of this pattern) but they do not distract at all from it’s wonderful character. The inside does have some staining, etc., but not that bad. It has been properly cleaned and is ready to display in your Burlington Route, Reed & Barton, Railway Silver, or Railroad collection. For reference information, some of the famous Burlington trains included the AKSARBEN (Nebraska spelled backwards), the Kansas City Zephyr, American Royal Zephyr, Twin Zephyr, Denver Zephyr, California Zephyr, Nebraska Zephyr, Texas Zephyr, Sam Houston Zephyr, Zephyr 9902, Pioneer Zephyr, Mark Twain Zephyr, Zephyr Rocket, and the Silver Streak Zephyr. As a geographical note, the CB&Q also served the cities of Denver, Des Moines, St. Joseph, Billings, Wendover, Black Hills, Colorado Springs, Minneapolis / St. Paul, Lincoln, Crete, Grand Island, Cheyenne, Blue Hills, Beatrice, Peoria, St. Paul, Galesburg, and Quincy in the states of Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Colorado, Montana, Minnesota, and Wyoming.
